Greater Kansas City Writing Project

Established in 1983, the Greater Kansas City Writing Project (GKCWP) is one of nearly 200 university-based National Writing Project sites. We are a Pre-K - College community of educators and lifelong learners working in conjunction with the University of Central Missouri.

Is to improve student achievement by improving the teaching of writing and improving learning for ALL learners. We believe that access to high-quality educational experiences is a basic right of all learners and a cornerstone of equity.

We work in partnership with institutions, organizations, and our community to develop and sustain leadership for educational improvement.  

We believe in the importance of acknowledging the unique and evolving challenges of our lives, and are committed to interrogating, grappling with, and working through these challenges in community.  

• Inspire teachers to promote social justice in the classroom.
• Encourage teachers to see themselves as writers.
• Expand the professional and leadership roles of classroom teachers.
